Crypto & You in a Shifting World
You want to place yourself in the right environment to maximize your chances at success. Here's what to look for to be in the world's center of gravity.
Everything moves in cycles. This was visualized on an intriguing map circulating on 𝕏 showing the world’s economic center of gravity moving back towards where it was a thousand years ago.
It first went from central Asia to Europe until the mid 1950s and now it’s moving back to Asia at unprecedented speeds. This has consequences, big consequences for crypto as well.
This newsletter is exactly about that: the intriguing map and your place on it.
The world’s economic center of gravity will soon settle in central Asia where it will probably stay for quite a while. It is no surprise that the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges by volume are based in Asia or have major offices there. See for yourself:
Binance - Singapore, UAE (where CZ lives), was China originally
KuCoin - Bangkok, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore
ByBit - Dubai, Singapore
OKX - Singapore
Huobi/HTX - Singapore, Japan, South Korea
MEXC - Singapore, China, Korea
The only big competitors to the above exchanges are Coinbase and Kraken, both based in the US. But even Coinbase decided to open an international arm. Asia is rising and it is clearly visible in crypto as well.
The most recent crypto event in Singapore, called Token2049, made waves. Particularly among US participants that had a cultural shock both when they arrived in Singapore and when they returned to the US. Singapore is a miracle in Asia and the world by many standards and now harbors some of the best minds in the crypto industry.
This bring me to my main point of this newsletter.
To maximize your chances at success you need to be in the right environment:
Be in a growing market - crypto ticks this box
Build in a fast moving economy - Asia ticks this box
Invest where innovation is booming - Singapore ticks this box
No matter how good you are, if you have a business and you try to grow your revenue in a shrinking market, it will be hard, very hard. The same applies to individuals seeking opportunities to make their life better. Imagine you ran an advertising company working in the printed newspaper sector during the emergence of the Internet age, smartphones and Google ads.
If you don’t pivot early, you die a slow death. Swimming against the current is a waste of energy. You maximize your chances at success by changing your environment so that you go where the current is strong and moves in your direction.
If you are in crypto, you are in the right market despite the ups and downs. On a net basis this market is growing faster than most tech companies. Ethereum reached $10 billion in revenue in seven years, faster than Facebook, Microsoft or Adobe.
In light of the above, would you change something about your environment? Move to Singapore? Or maybe simply buy more Bitcoin or Ethereum?
What’s your strategy for success?
